The World Data Centre for Geomagnetism, Mumbai (WDC Mumbai) is an integral part of the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), an autonomous research institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Located at the historic site of the Colaba Magnetic Observatory (established in 1841), the Centre stands at geographic coordinates 18°53′36″N, 72°48′54″E, preserving the legacy of one of the oldest geomagnetic observation stations in the world. Although the Colaba observatory was operational until 1906, continuity of geomagnetic observations has been maintained through the nearby Alibag Magnetic Observatory, resulting in one of the longest uninterrupted geomagnetic data series globally, spanning over 150 years.

WDC Mumbai houses a comprehensive repository of analog and digital geomagnetic data, including long-term records and indices of geomagnetic activity sourced from a global network of observatories. As the only World Data Centre for Geomagnetism in South Asia, it plays a crucial role in supporting space weather studies, Earth science research, and international scientific collaborations.
